REGISTER HERE FOR THE NEW AUGSBURG/TWIN CITIES GLOBAL HARMONY CHOIR
Greetings Augsburg Students—and international-music lovers of the Twin Cities Metro Area!
Together with Augsburg’s choral program, we are announcing the debut season of the Augsburg/Twin Cities Global Harmony Choir, an effort that was in the works before COVID struck, and one that we have fully adapted to our current pandemic conditions. The choir will be led by Village Harmony leaders Mollie Stone and Patty Cuyler in partnership with teaching artists from across the globe through the organization Village Harmony and in conjunction with Dr. Kristina Boerger of Augsburg University.
If you love to learn & sing vocal harmony, and learn about other cultures through music, you may join our virtual singing program. You do not need to be able to read music notation. Through a combination of synchronous zoom instruction and digital teaching materials, we will prepare a full program of study and performance in singing traditions from places such as Ukraine, South Africa, the island of Corsica, Nigeria, The Republic of Georgia, Cuba, Iran, and more. The magic of the virtual space will enable us to learn directly from culture bearers from thousands of miles away.
Zoom rehearsals for the the 2020-2021 season will be weekly and will primarily take place on Wednesdays from 4:30-6pm CT. To enable us to meet with singers in eastern Europe, the near east and South Africa, however, three meetings each semester will be scheduled on Saturdays from 10am-12noon CT.
You will be sent the Zoom link before the first rehearsal). Choristers will also be assigned a student account on our learning platform with unlimited access to resource files, individual voice part recordings, performance audio and video and other teaching materials.
Note: Unless otherwise specified, the dates below fall on Wednesdays.
Fall semester:
- September 16, 23
- October 3 (Sat) and 7, 14, 21, 28
- November 7 (Sat) and 11, 18
- December 5 (Sat) and 9
If we are still learning remotely, we will resume our Wednesday afternoon, 4:30-6pm rehearsals in January.
Winter/spring semester: January 16 (Sat), 20, 27; February 3, 10, 20 (Sat), 24; March 3, 10, 27 (Sat); April 7, 14, 21, 28
If we are able to switch to in-person learning, we will have rehearsals the following dates:
Sat, Jan. 16th: 1-4pm; Sat, Feb. 20th: 1-4pm; Sat, Mar. 27th: 1-4pm; Sat, April 24th: 1-4pm rehearsal with 5:30pm performance
NOTE: there is not a strict attendance requirement for community participants, although we encourage you to attend as many zoom/in-person rehearsals as possible
Full tuition for the year for non-students is $300. We also offer two self-chosen reduced tuition levels ($225/$175) for those that need a reduced fee. The chorus is free for Augsburg students.
Your tuition will help us to hire an international array of musician-teachers—and compensate them not just fairly but generously.
